ACLU Fires Shot in Favor of Fake Voters

The ACLU has filed suit against the Secretary of State in Michigan to continue two "voter programs" there which the Secretary thinks are in violation of state law. This is consistent with the ACLU's efforts in many states in prior elections to keep the voter rolls as open, sloppy, and favorable to the Democrat Party as possible.

The facts for this article, but not the legal conclusions, come from an article on the website of WLNS TV in Lansing, Michigan, on 19 September, 2008. Since an election is just around the corner, it is logical that the ACLU would begin filing suits to maintain questionable names on the voter roles in critical states. Just such a suit has been filed in Michigan.

The ACLU and "a national student group" have filed suit against the Secretary of State. The suit claims that the Secretary is "keeping voters away from November's election" by halting two voter programs.

Although the article doesn't name the student organization it is a solid bet that it is a liberal organization with a history of supporting Democrat candidates. It is also logical that the voter programs being halted are sloppy ones with questionable results, like the ones by ACORN which have led to criminal charges in a number of states.

A spokesman for the Secretary of State's office said that "it appears like they [the Plaintiffs] are challenging the motor voter law in Michigan that dates back to 1975 and also served as the basis for the national voter registration act." Her reply was a general one since the suit papers had not yet reached the Secretary's office. On the other hand, the ACLU said that the case had already been assigned to a federal judge.

The ACLU has a long history of filing suits to keep voter registration rolls as open and sloppy as possible, and to engage in judge-shopping to find the most friendly possible judges, so a pro-ACLU result happens at the trial level and then needs to be straightened out on appeal.
